Why is the soup of the day on Friday always Clam Chowder?



P.S. Take it easy, Conrad. I am NOT saying that it shouldn't be, I am merely asking why it is.

I believe it goes all the way back to prohibition era stemming from Catholocism and lent. No meat on Fridays. Kept customers who wanted soup in cold weather coming in.

I think the more important questions is WHY is it ONLY available on Fridays?
