Up, Up, And Away!

I saw premium gas yesterday priced at $5.30/gallon. Actually, it was $5.29 9/10, but I figured it would be safe to round up that extra 10th of a gallon. What is that about anyway?

My gas light was on today so I had to pull in. I hit 2.07 gallons and pulled out. I just couldn't bring myself to pay it. That 2 gallons of sheer necessity cost me 10 bucks. The needle barely moved.

Is 10.9 miles too far to ride my beachcruiser to work? How long would that take ya think? It might be something to think about. Just need a helmet is all. And a basket for my manpurse and lunch.

I think I might actually try this. Save money on gas AND gym membership.

By the end of the summer, it might actually be cheaper to fly to San Francisco than to drive there, as long as you don't want to check any bags of course.

Yikes!

I haven't had my car in over three weeks, so I haven't had to visit a gas station, so I kinda forgot the prices. I borrowed a car yesterday and filled it up to repay the friend and as I pulled into the ARCO, I noticed the price was $4.79...for some reason I thought gas was in the $3 range. Don't want to sound like an old fuddy duddy, but I remember filling up the ol' Joe-Kart at the corner petrol station at $1.89 a gallon...am I wrong?

And if you do bike to work, I think a ten-speed (at minimum) would be a better mode of transportation than a beach cruiser...I think you should do it anyways!

wes would be very proud of you for bike commuting :) i agree with roger lederer that the beachcruiser is going to be pretty difficult to manage for 20 miles a day...find a used bike shop and get a hybrid bike. these are comfort/road bikes with tires that aren't as thick as mountain bikes, but not as thin as road bikes and you still have the comfort seat! but i think it'd be lighter than a beachcruiser.

Yeah, the beach cruiser is for cruising. I'm sure you could get a nice 10 speed for 2 thanks of gas, especially since it's premium gas you're paying.

Joe, I visited a friend in HB a long time ago and paid .98 a gallon. (and I'm younger than you)

Roger Lederer....hahahahahaha....

The thing is, I don't want to buy a new bike and then realize it's too far, takes too long, or makes me too damn sweaty walking into work (especially on tie-day friday). I'll figure something out.

Make the commitment. If not it's just complaining: gas is too much, but a bike is too far, but gas is too much, but I don't want helmet hair blah blah blah...

Maybe you could borrow a ten speed and test it out?

Or try the cruiser on a slow day...if you make it in relative good time and it's relatively easy, you gotta figure it'd be quicker and easier with a 10-speed and go from there.

Of course, there's two words I can offer you as well: Seg Way

What about the gym, Conrad? There's not enough hours in the day for me to bike 11 miles to the gym, work out, shower, and bike to work by 9:15. I'm not arguing with you, these are just things that need to be worked out.

I was led to believe that it would would be your workout:

"Save money on gas AND gym membership."

There are places all over the place where you can rent a bike to see what you think. I ride 13 miles each way every day and it is great. It wakes you up and the pace lets you enjoy/notice more things along the way. If needed I can do it in 30 mins or just cruz and it takes 1 hour. If you have the right bag you can pack your work clothes and ride in a T and shorts (I leave my dress shoes at work)

Are you sweaty when you roll in?
